☕Ever heard of "fika?"

Fika can be simply translated to "coffee break with a cake," but it's grown bigger than that. Fika has become a daily ritual taking place at work, in cafés, at gatherings, and at all kinds of occassions in Sweden. It can take place anytime during the day, but the most important thing is everyone chills out and enjoys some quality time together.

🍩What's "fikabröd?"

Bröd means "bread" in Swedish. "Fikabröd" is literally the pastries that go with your coffee (or tea, if you prefer). There's a wide selection of fikabröd from traditional buns, rolls, cakes to cookies, pies and even muffins. Let's meet some of the classic fikabröd below.

Cinnamon Bun (Kanelbulle)

The most common type of fikabröd originated from Sweden. It's a rolled sheet of yeast-leavened dough onto which a cinnamon and sugar mixture is sprinkled over a thin coat of butter.

Cardamom Bun (Kardemummabulle)

Cardamom bun is usually seen aside the cinnamon bun, and the two are actually pretty similar. However, it's made with a cardamom-infused dough with cardamom filling. It's soft in texture, unique aroma, and delicate flavor.

Danish Pastry (Wienerbröd)

Yes, you read it right. Danish pastries are common fikabröd in Sweden. The multilayered buttery pastry is often offered at a fika. The filling can be custard or jam. Icing sugar is usually sprinkled on top of it.
